For fear of being
implicated…
Presidential Adviser Betrays
ACC
By Theophilus Sahr Gbenda
Alhaji Dr.
Alpha Kanu, also known as Alpha Khan, former Minister of Information and
Communication now Special Adviser to His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai
Koroma and Ambassador at Large, has caused the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to be in great risk of losing
a major case in the High Court of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
The ACC
filed an eight count corruption charges against one Mohamed Sesay alias
Assassin, for which Alpha Khan was listed as principal witness. Rather
conspicuously, Alpha Khan absented himself throughout the preliminary court
sittings which eventually left the presiding Judge Justice Miatta Samba to drop
three of the main charges determining the outcome of the matter.
Delivering
her ruling on a no case submission by counsel for the defence, Emmanuel Saffa
Abdulai Esq., Justice Miatta Samba said “For counts 4, 7 and 8 to have been established, the ACC
should have brought Honourable Alpha Kanu to testify that he did not sign the
documents purportedly signed by him”.
Whether the
ACC will appeal the initial ruling of Justice Miatta Samba remains to be seen,
but what is clear is that Alhaji Alpha Kanu’s
refusal to testify in the matter has left many with thoughts that he fears being
implicated should he testify.
This accordingly,
is an embarrassing situation for the ACC.
